Victory Day celebrations in Naberezhnye Chelny traditionally began with a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Jalil.
"The name of Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Jalil, at whose monument we are opening the festivities, is eternally inscribed in the history of our country. And it is no coincidence that one of the main avenues in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny is named after him. Today, on behalf of grateful residents of Chelny, I would like to express words of sincere appreciation and a big human thank you to our veterans of the Great Patriotic War, fallen soldiers, words of gratitude to the home front workers and concentration camp prisoners – a generation of people whose youth and maturity, unfortunately, burned in the crucible of the Great Patriotic War," said Mayor Nail Magdeev.
After a minute of silence, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the monument to the poet-hero, which was attended by Nail Magdeev, General Director of KAMAZ Sergey Kogogin, State Duma Deputy Alfiya Kogogina, Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan Svetlana Zakharova, and deputies of the City Council and the State Council of Tatarstan.
As part of the event, students of the Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University presented a theatrical composition titled "We Will Not Forget, We Will Not Forgive."
