The eighth season of the city program "A Walk with a Doctor, or School of Health and Nordic Walking," implemented for senior citizens, has concluded in Naberezhnye Chelny. Over the eight years of the project, 240 sessions (30 events annually) have been held on Saturdays at the "Kyzyl-Tau" Cultural Center. Each meeting included three mandatory blocks: lectures by doctors on disease prevention and maintaining physical and mental activity, breathing exercises accompanied by guitar songs, and Nordic walking in the forest park area lasting from one and a half to two hours.
Following the eighth season, the number of regular program participants exceeded 200 people. The geography of the sessions has expanded: in addition to the "Kyzyl-Tau" center, events now take place in libraries, concert halls, and museums. Not only medical professionals but also artists, writers, musicians, and teachers have been involved in the project. Furthermore, active participants from among the senior citizens independently conduct workshops and give lectures in care homes and residential courtyards.
A new form of activity in the completed season was collective dancing aimed at counteracting diseases for which there is currently no specific treatment (dementia, Alzheimer's disease). Dance classes are held for all participants simultaneously and are built on the principle of "through hardships to health."
In line with established traditions, on June 1, 2026, on Children's Day, all program participants will gather at Victory Park for a public demonstration of the results achieved over the past years. The organizers emphasize that health primarily depends on the individual and invite all interested senior citizens to join the project.
The project is successfully implemented within the framework of the "Active Longevity" program, which is one of the key directions of the national project "Family." Its task is to create comfortable conditions for a high-quality, fulfilling life for the older generation. Regular routes with supervising doctors, Nordic walking sessions, and themed meetings help participants strengthen their health, explore new locations, and maintain physical fitness.
