The State Duma has adopted in the first reading a bill prohibiting the demonstration on the territory of Russia of images of people found guilty of crimes in accordance with the verdict of the Nuremberg Tribunal. An exception to this prohibition will be cases in which images are used to form a negative attitude towards the ideology of Nazism, as well as if there are no signs of propaganda or justification of Nazism.
Alfiya Kogogina, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship, member of the UNITED RUSSIA faction, commented on the initiative.: "In the year of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, some scoundrels posted photos of the Nazis in a video series along with the heroes of the Immortal Regiment. These actions outraged our citizens and deeply hurt the hearts of our highly respected veterans. In our country, which has lost more than 27 million people in the struggle for a peaceful life, praising those who brought the "brown plague" to us cannot be accepted. We honor veterans, heroes, and the older generation, and I believe that it is precisely on these traditions that our country, statehood, and unity are based. This is our historical code, our foundation, based on which we live today and build the future," she said.
"The measures taken to preserve the memory of the Victory of our people in the Great Patriotic War cannot be excessive. We are legislating the decisions necessary to perpetuate the feat of the Soviet soldier and counter extremism," the parliamentarian added.
Amendments are expected to be made to the laws "On Perpetuating the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" and "On countering extremist activities."
