Flowers and wreaths were laid at the Eternal Flame in Naberezhnye Chelny in honor of Defender of the Fatherland Day. The solemn event took place at the memorial "Motherland". The mayor Nail Magdeev took part in it. Special words of gratitude were addressed to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War: to front-line soldiers, concentration camp prisoners, residents of besieged Leningrad, home front workers: "Our veterans experienced all the hardships of a long-term bloody war, experienced terrible hunger, monstrous atrocities of the Nazis, and the bitterness of irreparable losses," the mayor said.
"We are proud of our youth, who worthily serve in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Our recruits fill up the best parts of the country. They serve in a sponsored unit in Sevastopol, where they train submarine specialists, in the 14th Strategic Missile Division, and in the Kremlin Regiment. A warship of the Black Sea Fleet bears the name of our city. Everyday army life in these and other parts of the Russian Armed Forces hardens our guys physically and mentally," he said.
